In Memory of John C. Bartlett Jr.

Dear Ocean County Residents:

This year marks the two-year anniversary of the passing of my dear friend John C. Bartlett Jr. John and I were the two longest serving Freeholders in the history of New Jersey and we worked together on the Ocean County Board of Chosen Freeholders for nearly 40 years.

John Bartlett was not a politician. He was a statesman. He devoted his life to family and to the people of Ocean County. We worked in close partnership, pooling our ideas and reaching agreements and compromises that benefited for all of our county residents.

John was a leader in open space preservation, carefully crafting a program for the purchase and protection of natural lands that became a model throughout the state of New Jersey. His conservative financial practices led to the county achieving the coveted AAA Bond Rating from the nation’s leading financial institutions.

I miss John Bartlett’s leadership on the board. His guidance and experience helped us weather the great recession and the super storm. But most of all I miss my friend.
